Android Wear app won't pair - Acts as though watch already connected
I've tried looking everywhere but haven't been able to find anyone with this issue. I have a fresh install of Resurrection Remix Marshmallow on my Galaxy S 5, and I have factory reset my Gear Live. When I download and open the Android Wear app, it acts as though there is already a watch paired, but has no information on it. Resetting the app, google play services, clearing caches and reinstalling has not fixed this issue. The app does not come up with the welcome screen, just goes straight to the screen as in the attatched image, with no way to pair a watch.
Anyone able to help here? Next step is to reinstall the ROM, but I want to check there's no simple solution first.

[Development] Android Wear for the gear S2
I know there is no Android Development section to this device, I personally love tizen, but who wouldn't want to see AW on this watch.
That being said the Gear S2 is using a Qualcom S4 play Cpu dual core 1.2ghz, I have been doing a lot of research and I may not be a developer, but I want to do what I can to see if it's possible. I have been on the forums and talking to many people in person about this and I have a few leads. I personally need people who can test and possibly help me get a better understanding of what I can do. I believe the hardware should be capable of running Android but I only have a few ideas/limited time to try them. I am looking for the recourses and or people to help me get this project started.
It's a proof of concept, I understand functionality will be lost, and if you want to tell me it's not worth it, or something I've already been told. Please kindly do not post. I am interested in general conversation about it, in a positive way. Unless you are saying something particularly for the mutual benefit/genuine curiosity/or an interest in the topic. I understand this will take up to a year to complete and I will likely create a different thread when the time comes. Thank you for reading and your help is appreciated.

Android Tablet Software Recommendations Please....
I am constantly encountering 'bricked' tablets and only recently came across a Nexus 7 1st Gen 32Gb. It was locked on the Google Logo but I sorted it with the usual volume and power button combinations. I do get them however when that simply will not work and I see all the different versions of software out there to "flash" or reset these type of Nexus tablets. Can I ask which particular software the readers on here would unhesitatingly recommend please ?? I would really like to be able to delve further into android tablet problems and hopefully solve them. Many thanks for any advice given...much appreciated.

Android Pay & Root - sort of working! (LP)
While playing with my phone I was surprised to find out that Android Pay will work on our Z3 Compact with an unlocked bootloader. This means you don't have drm keys, but you can alternate between having root and using Android Pay without too much trouble.
For simplicity's sake, I backed up data and drm keys, then wiped and then went back to stock 5.1.1. using PC Companion (my D5803 received 23.4.A.1.200). Then the phone was unlocked (either through fastboot or flashtool). I installed AdvancedStockKernel which comes with TWRP, but you could also fastboot flash a recovery. SuperSU (I'm using 2.66 beta) and its uninstaller (UPDATE-unSU.zip) are copied to the phone along with any other flashable zips, including xposed. If I understand it correctly, SuperSU 2.66 beta is not systemless on 5.1.1 which should mean more compatibility with root apps.
When you want to use Android Pay, uninstall SuperSU in recovery. Xposed does not have to be uninstalled. My phone, which has too many apps, takes about a minute to boot to a state where Android Pay works. When you're done with Android Pay, go back to recovery and install SuperSU again.
Hope this helps someone. If there's interest I could write a detailed guide.

Make a VoIP a default dialer on Android (for use with Android Auto)
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint network and I like how it works with Android Auto on my Pioneer AVH4100 NEX. The major issue I'm having right now is that my phone is relatively dated and in rough shape and all the newer Sprint phones are Spark Compatible meaning that there is no simultaneous data and voice. The main reason I use Android Auto is for the Google Maps function and the problem with the new phones (from what I understand at least) is that when you receive/make a call and the data transmission stops, so will your access to updated directions on Google Maps. This may seem trivial, but if I'm in the car for several hours driving somewhere unfamiliar and have to take calls which may also last a while - it could be a problem. With the Google Hangouts app can receive and reply to text messages in hangouts via Android Auto, but I read that you cannot start new Hangouts (i.e. make a call) and I'm not even sure if you can receive a voice call on Google Hangouts through your DATA connection while you're connected to Android Auto. The only way that I have thought of to get around this situation with one of the Spark phones would be to get AppRadio UR, but the problem is that for the purposes I've laid out above (long intervals of google maps and phone calls) and all that I've read about AppRadio UR my phone would likely not be able to maintain a charge in these circumstances anyways.
Is there a way to make your phone transition to a VoIP dialer by default so that one could be plugged in to Android Auto and make/receive calls via the data connection so that a newer Spark Compatible phone would be useful in this situation? Thanks

So I have an iphone and as you know iphones have only one sim card slot so I needed to use two lines at the same time and I asked a friend for a cheap phone for my other sim and he advised me with a phone called xperia E4, ok I bought the phone it was cool way too cool for its price but then I wanted to root the phone,so here the madness began I installed an app called kingroot that app can get root without me having root here is why the app has been a system app when I installed it but when I try to root my phone with it it fails and every other rooting app/program failed either and some freaking add viruses could even be in the system apps, please if aby one knows a good rom post the url to it because I don't trust the roms I find and can somebody explain that s*** is going on with my android.

Android root security considerations

I know this question has been asked many times, but I didn't see a clear answer to it from security experts, or it is from several years ago and things might have changed.
My question is double:
first of all, nowadays, how does the process of rooting an android phone work (please detail if there are various alternatives) ? Does it rely on a security hole, or is it a kind of attack (such as physical access to the device) that is not part of the security perimeter of android ? In the first case, why is it that it's not fixed, as there are open bounties for the android system ? Note that I'm just talking about the android system itself (such as a Nexus Phone), with the latest patches.
Second related question: What would be the security risk of rooting an android phone ? If I am not mistaken, these could be grouped in at least two issues: the rooting process itself, and the aftermath.
a. Regarding the rooting process, is there any open source procedure (or at least closely reviewed) to root a nexus phone that could guarantee that there's no malware installed in the process ? (see also first question)
b. From what I understand, having a rooted android is no different than having a linux OS with a root account. Are there any (free, open source?) apps that can monitor (what commands have been launched, etc) and prevent apps from getting access to the root account without my agreement ? (so that it is linux OS where any account that requires root privileges must go through 'sudo' and ask the user to enter their password).

Android Pay stopped working (Systemless Root)
Anyone else having an issue with Android Pay. I am rooted (systemless) and finally decided to add a card to Android Pay. I've been able to get into Android Pay and tap the plus button to add the card just to test that it would work. I'm just now getting around to setting it up now. This time however tapping the plus button, I get the error message when you are rooted the traditional way. I didn't install any new apps that weren't directly from the Play store or that use root in any way.
I checked and noticed Android Pay was updated though. I went ahead and rebooted and was now able to add a card. But in the middle of adding another card I got the same error message. I dismissed it and was able to add another card. For some reason I could not add my Bank of America Visa though. So I haven't used it yet at a terminal. Anybody seen this issue?

Facebook messenger bug on Sultan xda ROM based on Android 6.0.1
Hey guys,
Couple of days ago I have installed the Sultan XDA ROM based on CM13 and Android 6.0.1 and since this time I am experiencing a strange problem with the Facebook messenger and couple of more apps. I can't send messages to anyone using the mobile data, I can only receive and when I am in the main menu it shows the connecting notification but nothing more. This is actually happening on other apps as well like Viber. Initially I thought it is because of some lack of permissions but then I have granted everything possible to the messenger and I still can't chat with my friends over the mobile networks. When I switch to Wi-Fi it works just fine. Anyone else experiencing such a problem? I will be glad for any advices. My phone is One plus One.

CM 13.0 (Android M) - Nook tablet (acclaim)
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android M (Marshmallow), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed.
This rom is for both the Nook Tablet 512M/8GB and 1GB/16GB versions. The device code name is "acclaim".
Prerequisites:
A recovery. To install a recovery when coming from a stock device, you need to prepare a special SD card. Installation instructions can be found here on xda.
Installation:
Grab a new recovery (http://get.cm/?device=acclaim or TWRP) and flash it with fastboot.
If you have a CM installed, flash the new recovery and try the updater, otherwise download the zip from nightlies, boot to CM recovery or TWRP and flash it.
Once a version is installed (and all bugs fixed), you will be able to use CM Updater
Settings->About tablet->CyanogenMod updates->Refresh :D
THE NEW NIGHTLIES HAVE EMULATED STORAGE ENABLED. YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA. MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP!!!! THE INTERNAL EMMC 1GB PARTITION IS ALSO NOT ACCESSIBLE ANYMORE. COPY THE CONTENT. Returning to stock BN firmware:
If you have installed above rom and the CWM recovery and you really hate it and want to go back to stock, you may wish to try to flash the original acclaim_update.zip from BN. You have to unzip that file and edit META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script. Drop the first two lines here:

Zip the package again. Then go to recovery, flash the zip, wipe, and reboot.

- It is possible that you need to wipe your device. I did not do that, but...
- Also you must flash gapps. It can be found somewhere....
ATTENTION: IT SEEMS THAT DHACKER'S L GAPPS ARE TOO BIG TO FIT INTO THE SYSTEM PARTITION. Try to find a smaller one.
- The SELINUX policies are enforced now.
Known issues:
- system partition is too small for full gapps. use a mini gapp package.
- the touchscreen firmware flasher doesn't work on M. Use CM11 to flash it first.
- Currently the CM13 recovery does not flash the open gapps (due to move to toybox instead of busybox)
- CMUpdater (and adb reboot recovery) don't boot into recovery
- The system is altogether not really the fastest thing on earth :)

Prerequisites:
A recovery. To install a recovery when coming from a stock device, you need to prepare a special SD card. Installation instructions can be found here on xda.
Installation:
Grab a new recovery (http://get.cm/?device=acclaim or TWRP) and flash it with fastboot.
If you have a CM installed, flash the new recovery and try the updater, otherwise download the zip from nightlies, boot to CM recovery or TWRP and flash it.
Once a version is installed (and all bugs fixed), you will be able to use CM Updater
Settings->About tablet->CyanogenMod updates->Refresh :D
THE NEW NIGHTLIES HAVE EMULATED STORAGE ENABLED. YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA. MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP!!!! THE INTERNAL EMMC 1GB PARTITION IS ALSO NOT ACCESSIBLE ANYMORE. COPY THE CONTENT. THE EXTERNAL SDCARD IS NOT USED ANYMORE AS PRIMARY STORAGE. ALL APP DATA ON THE SDCARD WILL BE LOST. I ALSO RECOMMEND TO WIPE.

Returning to stock BN firmware:
If you have installed above rom and the CWM recovery and you really hate it and want to go back to stock, you may wish to try to flash the original acclaim_update.zip from BN. You have to unzip that file and edit META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script. Drop the first two lines here:

Zip the package again. Then go to recovery, flash the zip, wipe, and reboot.

For any issues encountered, please post into this forum, but add steps to reproduce and dmesg, logcat and audit.log information. If you don't know what this is or how to get them, try to find that out first before posting here.

How to develop an accessibility feature that overlays info on the Android launcher?
I am not sure which sub-forum to post this question in Android Dev and Hacking, so I posted it here. If there is a better place to post this, please let me know.
So, I got this idea to develop an accessibility feature for Android. Sometimes people may forget what an app does on their phone. They may want to have a helpful hint displayed and/or spoken out to them when they tap an icon in their phone's launcher. For example, as in the image below, if you tap on Google Maps app, a helpful suggestion would appear as a toast saying that "Google Maps provides world maps and turn-by-turn navigation". Additionally, the user may configure to hear the hint as well. The details about how to activate the hint can be figured out but the basic idea is that the user would interact with an app icon on their homescreen or the app drawer in the launcher (either by long-pressing, tapping or some other way) and hear or see a hint about the app's action, which may be retrieved from the Google Play Store.
Now, I am fairly new to Android development and since this is quite a different thing than a standard app, I was not sure how to go about developing it.
So, specifically, what I want to know is:
